WebAug 4, 2009 · Never let your fingers get far from the strings during any non-stroke period. Im talking withing 1/4 of an inch. One reason for flailing fingers, among others, is insisting on planting the ring finger on the head when it doesnt want to be there. Sharp shooting pains in certain postures is also not good. swelling and pain to the touch in the finger joints could be arthritis. If you cannot associate the pain with something like callus development or fatigue I would recommend seeing a doctor ASAP.
